LA City p1 Los Angeles California. Considered to be the City of Angels, home of the LA Dodgers, and a city where one's biggest dreams can become realities. The Hollywood Walk of Fame consists of more than 2,400 five-pointed terrazzo and brass stars embedded in the sidewalks along fifteen blocks of Hollywood Boulevard and three blocks of Vine Street in Hollywood, California. The stars are permanent public monuments to achievement in the entertainment industry, bearing the names of a mix of actors, musicians, directors, producers, musical and theatrical groups, fictional characters, and others. Along with every great fantasy comes a double-edged sword, the darker side of the fairy tale. Confined in the heart of Downtown Los angeles is Central City East, nationally known as Skid Row. Hidden behind the image of Hollywood Hills resides the home of nearly 5,000 homeless United States citizens, making Los Angeles one of the largest transit populations in the country. Gentrification of the downtown area has reconstructed old buildings into modern day lofts and condominiums, forcing several homesless comrades to migrate with the incorporation of the citiy's anti-camping ordinance that prohibits homeless individuals from sleeping on the sidewalk between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. Most of the city's homeless and social-services providers such as Volunteers of America, Union Rescue Mission, The Jonah Project, Downtown Women's Center, The Weingart Foundation, Los Angeles Mission Community Clinic, Fred Jordan Mission, The Society of St. Vincent de Paul's Cardinal Manning Center, and Midnight Mission, are based on Skid Row. An important development took place in 2007 when Union Rescue Mission finally opened a facility outside of Skid Row, known as Hope Gardens, which is exclusively for women and children. While the attempt is being made to clean up Skid Row, speculation surrounds the idea as to whom will benefit most? The affordability of inner city property is not targeted towards those who reside on the streets, but aimed directly at the cities upper echelon. It leaves one with the impression that there maybe an underlying message behind project Skid Row. Is the city of Los Angeles concerned about the well-being of it's homeless population, or more concerned with providing luxury town homes for the cream of society.

They also believe that a passion for the subject needs to be developed in it's entirety before one seeks to acquire fundamental knowledge. One can be taught to snap a photograph, but one cannot be taught how to become a photographer. Random Fact B:The human eye functions as a Telephoto Lens. Our vision is flat until we focus on an indivdual subject. Once that subject is locked in on, the focus of outside objects become hazy or blurred. We can also see far to near, or near to far just as a telephoto lens functions. It's good to know the functions of each lens and it's capabilities, but it's better to understand vision begins with the eye, not it's components. Random Fact C:Some of the world's most notorious photograph's were created by a spontaneous reaction. Eddie Adams, an NBC photographer became popular for captiring the well-known image of police chief General Nguyễn Ngọo Loan executing a Vietcong prisoner, Nguyễn Văn Lém, on a Saigon street, on February 1, 1968. Random Fact D:The ultimate stress factor for most artist is never reaching the level of greatness in which they desire. One conquered goal leads to the next with minimal time for celebration. They exist only to defeat themselves time and time again, in hope of achieving some sort of internal peace. The majority fall death to their own greatness. Random Fact E:Gordon Roger Alexander Buchanan Parks (November 30, 1912 – March 7, 2006) was a groundbreaking African photographer, musician, poet, novelist, journalist, activist and film director. He is best remembered for his photo essays for Life magazine and as the director of the 1971 film Shaft. His later recognition would solidify his position as the first black photographer in history. Random Fact F:The Daguerreotype was the first commercially successful photographic process. The image is a direct positive made in the camera on a silver plated copper plate. The raw material for plates was called Sheffield plate, plating by fusion or cold-rolled cladding and was a standard hardware item produced by heating and rolling silver foil in contact with a copper support. Random Fact G:Photographer David Slater spent three days photographing a group of crested black macaque monkeys in an Indonesian national park. As he was trying to fend off some monkeys, another monkey approached his tripod-mounted Canon 5D and started playing with the remote shutter release. Afterward, he found hundreds of photos taken by the monkeys on his memory card, including some self-portraits and even a portrait of Slater.Random Fact H:Berenice Abbott (July 17, 1898 – December 9, 1991), born Bernice Abbott, was an American photographer best known for her black-and-white photography of New York City architecture and urban design of the 1930s. Abbott's style of straight photography helped her make important contributions to scientific photography. In 1958, she produced a series of photographs for a high-school physics text-bookRandom Fact I:The 1968 Mexico City games changed the world when two African American sprinters by the names of Tommy Smith and John Carlos bowed their heads and raised their fists to represent the Black Power salute. The moment was captured by a well known photographer named John Dominis who was twenty feet away from the podium, thus creating a world famous photograph and a milestone in African American history.
